The scrael (singular: scraeling[1]) are spider-like creatures with hard, smooth surfaces, similar to pottery, and razor-like legs.
Trivia
Patrick Rothfuss has implied that the word scraeling comes from "Skræling," the name given by Norse Greenlanders to the people they came across in North America and Greenland.[2]
