Cethan is the Ademic word for "mercenary" [1]. It is an honorific title to the Adem, and does not carry the same negative commonwealth connotation for sellswords. Adem mercenaries are renowned for their prowess throughout Temerant and are paid two or three jots a day (twenty times what a normal mercenary gets[2]). They pride themselves on investing 80 percent or that income on their home town [3].
