Magic is a central element in the Kingkiller books, and there are clues to Auri's past that seem to point toward some great power, either bottled up or lost. Slow Regard, though, isn't concerned with solving the cipher that is Auri, only with giving her room to bloom.

NPR

The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a novella and one of the companion tales in the The Kingkiller Chronicle. The story focuses on Auri and covers the seven day period between chapters four and eleven of The Wise Man's Fear where Auri is waiting for a visit from Kvothe.
