Cethan is the Ademic word for "mercenary" [1], but is an honorific title to the Adem that does not carry the same negative commonwealth connotation. Adem mercenaries are renowned for their prowess throughout Temerant. They are paid two or three jots a day, twenty times what a normal mercenary gets[2]. Cethan pride themselves on returning a full 80 percent of that pay to their home town [3].
