A beautiful autumn day finds the Chronicler being robbed by some deserters on while on the road. He admits to being a scribe. The men leave him unharmed but strip him of most of his possessions, swapping essentials where they can. Their departure finds the chronicler reaching into his various clever hiding spots to restock his emptied purse.
